Prevention: avoiding packaging, such as buying loose or bringing your own containers to refill in-store

Reuse: reusing packaging as many times as possible (for the same use it was originally designed for)

Recycling: recycling packaging, usually into other lower value items, e.g. park equipment

Recovery: burning packaging in an incinerator (sometimes generating electricity, often called ‘efw, energy from waste’)

Disposal: burying packaging in the ground in a landfill site
